Hey there. Let's start with a couple of words of introduction, in case you're reading this and you are not my parents.
My name is Jeremy Edwards and I'm an independent musician. For the past few years I have been on a journey of learning how to record and produce my own songs and instrumental pieces.
I'm now getting to the point where I have some things that are close to being "finished." That's why I created this website: to have a home for sharing music with other people.
I was inspired in part by the Peter Jackson documentary "Get Back," which traced in detail the process of the Beatles creating their "Let It Be" album. I've always been a big Beatles fan, and I couldn't get enough of watching those songs develop from raw-ore ideas into their final form.
I get a similar joy out of podcasts like Song Exploder that go into the minutiae of the creative process, or visual artists who post videos on instagram of drawings and paintings taking shape over time. I want to try doing that with my music.
In the fall of 2022 I started a YouTube channel for sharing demos in production. My goal is to start by sharing the first-draft idea of a song (usually a phone voice note these days, often featuring out-of-tune humming). Then I'll share additional versions at various waypoints through the development process, all the way until the song is finished.
So far, I feel like the YouTube format hasn't done quite as good a job as I'd like of presenting the larger arc of the story. So I thought, I'll create a blog where I can tie the different versions together and show the development of each one.
My goal is to post once a week. At some point I will get around to also creating an email list, but one thing at a time.
Will that be interesting? You decide. Go ahead and tell me what you think in the comments.
And since this is the internet: don't be a jerk, I don't have time for that. Let's have a good time here, and be good to each other.
